October Feel Today; September Returns Sunday!
Written by John DiPasquale:
Chilly west-northwest flow over the warmer waters of Lake Ontario produced some showers late last night into early this morning, but now all we are left with, as I type late Friday morning, are some lake clouds. Eventually, the dry air to the west in the lower levels of the atmosphere associated with a strong high pressure system will snuff them out later this afternoon, but as that's happening some cirrus clouds will begin to creep in from the west. Either way, I do believe we will see more sun evolve as the afternoon progresses. Temperatures will climb no higher than the upper 50s to around 60, which is more than 10 degrees below average!
An upper air disturbance creating the high & mid level clouds across the lower Great Lakes currently will move through here later tonight & Saturday. This will result in a partly to mostly cloudy sky developing tonight & a filtered sun for much of Saturday. However, what the clouds will do later tonight & early Saturday is protect most from frost, with the only exception possibly being near Dansville to the Southern Tier, but even that threat is minimal due to the clouds expected to roll in tonight. Lows tonight will be in the low 40s for the Rochester area, while 35 to 40 should do it down south, & mid to upper 40s is where areas near the warmer lakes will bottom out.
Your last official weekend of summer is looking very nice with chilly starts, but milder afternoons with a sun cloud blend tomorrow & a lot of sun & blue sky Sunday! Temperatures will warm into the low & mid 60s Saturday, while 65 to 70 will be the high to end the weekend, which is great news for the Rochester Marathon, the Bills opener, apple & pumpkin picking, Green Topia, etc...Enjoy WNY!!
The clouds will likely increase later Monday with a few showers/storm possible by days end. It will likely remain a bit unsettled at times through mid next week with temperatures topping out in the low to mid 70s Monday through Wednesday.
Have a great Friday & weekend everyone!
