Summery Today!
Written by John DiPasquale:
Summer returned over the weekend, despite the official start of autumn early Friday. Highs on our Sunday were near 80 with some humidity to boot, and it appears that the summer conditions will stick around especially today, but even linger into tomorrow! Highs today will be around 80, & mid to upper 70s will be felt tomorrow. So warm temperature lovers are going to love today. Thankfully, the upper level storm out near Chicago has been stationary since last Thursday/Friday, which allowed us to endure a mainly dry, pleasant weekend. Unfortunately, the storm, the 'L', with it's cold front in the above picture will inch closer to the area over the next 24 to 48 hours. This is result in an increased chance of scattered showers & storms later Tuesday into Wednesday. So we should be mainly rain free through the start of Tuesday, before a scattering showers & storms develops & begins to cool us off Tuesday, & even more so Wednesday & Thurday.
The first of two cold fronts will move through late Tuesday night into Wednesday & cool the area off to more seasonable levels, closer to 70.
Thursday will likely feature some more showers & even cooler readings, as highs will be in the upper 60s to around 70 with yet another round of showers possible. There will likely also be some wind on Thurday.
Thursday night into Friday morning, one of, if not the strongest, cold front since Spring will sweep through with a few showers/storm. Behind the front, there likely will be a few lake showers from time to time developing Friday & lasting right into the weekend, as the air turns quite cold. As a matter a fact, it MAY become cold enough to support some of the first flakes of the season for some, especially for those who live in the higher terrain south of the thruway Saturday into early Sunday! This will NOT be a big deal, but it will serve as mother nature's reminder to all that we will be entering October this upcoming weekend & that the other season that follows this one we just entered is not too far away. Now, the weekend is still about 5 days away, so a lot can change between now & then, but it will be interesting to see if this real chilly air mass verifies come Friday & especially this weekend. Stay tuned!
