Not a Bad Last Day of Summer
Written by John DiPasquale:
Good Thursday everyone! Today will turn out to be a fairly nice day with quite a few clouds around during the morning, along with a couple of spotty showers/sprinkles. However, more sunshine should develop as we move into the midday & afternoon, as somewhat drier air moves in behind a weakening cold front that's slowly sliding to the east into CNY now. This front will likely end up stalling out near Eastern New York/East Coast tonight into Friday. This will set the stage for some potentially significant rains off to the east, where they do not need it Friday & into parts of the weekend & early next week. For us here in WNY, the big, intense upper level low parked to the west across the Upper Midwest will send occasional surges of moisture our way from the south & southwest right through at least next Tuesday/Wednesday. This will likely result in a few showers/storm popping up & drifting through from time to time starting Friday afternoon & lasting through next Wednesday! The good news about this unfortunate, stagnate pattern...is that there will probably be NO WASHOUT on any one day through the start of next week! Keep your fingers crossed that this holds. Highs tomorrow through next Monday/Tuesday will most likely range from about the upper 60s to the mid 70s. That is a bit above average, which is in the upper 60s for this time of year in WNY.
Finally Tuesday into Wednesday, it appears the cut-off upper level storm to the west will be picked up by the upper level winds (jet stream), which may cause it to become a bit more unsettled later Tuesday into Wednesday. Beyond next Wednesday, long range data is suggesting some nicer weather will build in with high pressure for the end of September & start of October! We will see. Stay tuned.
By the way, as the picture above displays...fall begins when the sun's rays are shinning directly over the Equator & heading south. This will happen at 5:04AM tomorrow, Friday, morning. Enjoy the last day of summer officially everyone!
