July Is Rochester's Hottest!
If you've ever wondered when Rochester reaches it's hottest, you need look no further than July! Since records began in the early 1880's, we hit the century mark only 6 times! Amazingly, we had 3 consecutive days of 100 degree temperatures in the Summer of 1936. July 1936 is far and away our hottest month on record! On July 9th and 10th, Rochester hit 102 degrees. Most of the Eastern United States was suffering from prolonged drought. About 5,000 people are estimated to have died from the effects of the heat in the U.S. during 1936, most of them during July.
