What Is A Heat Wave?
Although a term typically used fairly loosely to describe any stretch of hot and humid weather (no matter what the length), a heat wave actually does have a proper, technical definition! A heat wave for Western New York is 3 or more days of 90-degree-plus weather. Typically, these occur during the summer months and are accompanied by high humidity, brought into our neck of the woods on the southerly winds that also transport in the heat.
