Summer usually peaks in August!
The torrid dog days of late July usually hang around for much of August as well. You can expect about half the month to have sunny or mostly sunny skies. Afternoon storms usually collect over 3.54" of rain making August the wettest of the year on average. We lose about 45 minutes of daylight during the month as we slowly head toward the Autumnal Equinox in September. Because of the longer nights, fog formation becomes more prevalent toward the end of the month. Rochester's coldest day in August was a bone chilling 36 degrees on the 30th, 1965!
