A New Year, A New Pattern

Written by: Jonathan Myers
After a year's end featuring highs near 40 and almost no snow on the ground, things will change drastically for the beginning of 2008. As an arctic air mass moves in behind a storm's passage on New Year's Eve, temperatures will have a hard time surpassing the freezing mark on New Year's Day, Wednesday, and Thursday. Adding to the wintry appeal, lake snows should spark as well, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday.

  1. How warm do you think we may get to in the pattern that will setup late next week the one that will be giving most of the midwest record temperatures (high)

  2. Hi Charles,

Although, it doesn't look like record warmth, a zonal pattern will take over into the later portion of next week and next weekend, AKA a Pacific flow rather than one coming from the Arctic. This will keep temperatures closer to the 30's where they should be, or slightly above the average, for late-week and next weekend.
