IT WAS THE COLDEST MORNING SINCE...

FEBRUARY 5 OF THIS YEAR! In fact, February 5 was the last time we dropped into the single digits at the Rochester airport until this morning. The low temperature that day was also 3 degrees.

Fortunately, the frigid air will not stick around for the weekend. Teens will be the low range for us both Saturday and Sunday mornings. Expect sunshine to accompany it as well, thanks to high pressure parked over the northeast region.

Stay tuned about the potential storm brewing that could deliver quite a punch come Christmas Eve/Day!

  1. I see your tease on the potential Christmas storm. I was skeptical of the GFS depicting some very strong warm advection in our area with basically a balmy warm and rainy Christmas eve and early Christmas day, but I see the National Weather Service Offices as far west as Chicago have updated their forecast discussion to include warmth and rain. The Chicago NWS literally states that they hope kids don't get a sled for Christmas because it will be too muddy to use. In any case, why are the NWS offices jumping the gun on rain and warmth after just a couple runs from the GFS and Euro? But more importantly, Scott, you have a way of being able to tell where things will eventually lean toward as we get closer. Are we in store for a rain storm on Christmas Eve like the models are saying, or do you think the models will trend back to the snow side for WNY?
