WED & THU STORM IMPACTS
Written by: Brian Neudorff
From the discussions we've had on this blog the past couple of day, you probably know we're not going to get the full brunt of this winter storm. The heaviest of the snow and blizzard-like conditions will occur well west and north of western New York, through the plains, and into the upper Midwest and upper Great Lakes. Just because we aren't going to get monster snows doesn't mean we won't feel the impact of this very large and powerful storm.
We'll begin to feel the impact of this storm late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. There could be a couple hours of snow with a burst that could give us 1 to possibly 3 inches by sunrise. The heaviest of the snow will fall east and south of Rochester from Dansville to Syracuse where 2 to 4 inches could fall.
During the morning the snow will mix with sleet and rain before changing over to all rain by the afternoon. Temperatures will climb into the low 40s so any snow we did receive won't be around long. An associated cold front will move through Wednesday afternoon, and temperatures will quickly fall and could change the rain back into a wintry mix and snow.
The next big feature with this storm will be winds. Late Wednesday into late Thursday it is possible winds could be sustained from 30 to 40 mph and gust of 50 to 60 mph. We will start to see lake effect snow Wednesday night into Thursday but with the winds there won't be a lot of heavy snow but visibilities with blowing snow will be something that could cause major travel problems. Stay tuned for updates
You say we'll start to see lake effect snow wednesday night and Thursday...It won't be off lake ontario considering the winds will be WSW / W, so are you saying with pretty good confidence that the lake erie band will send its snow all the way to ROC metro?
ReplyDeleteI'm not holding out any hope for snow in the near future. It's so depressing. ON other weather boards, I'm seeing so many people in so many cities in the NE, including many here in NYS, excited about heavy snow and that too snow that will stick around to create a nice snowy landscape for their area. Not here in ROC unfortunately. I really wonder how long we will be dealing with bare ground here....maybe a record for least snow in ROC for December? Any snow we get tonight, washed away tomorrow, and I bet you any amount of money that any LES band on Thursday and Friday will MISS my town completely.
ReplyDeleteA snow lover that's fed up, while everyone around me is snow partying.
