THE COLDEST DAY OF WINTER!
Written by: Bob Metcalfe
It's officially been the coldest day of this winter season. Morning lows at our airport recorded at zero degrees, with a daytime high of a meager 11 degrees. As of this writing, the temperature at the airport has plummeted to 2 degrees, meaning negative numbers are highly likely overnight.
Clearing skies have been to blame for this quick drop early this evening. Remember, a loss of clouds is like taking off the blanket, all the daytime heat radiates away.
On the impressive side... look at the morning low in Watertown: a staggering -24. That shatters the record of -15 set back in 1985.
This should be it for the extreme cold however. A more typical, less harsh winter pattern will take the reigns for the remainder of the next 7 days. No major snow in sight either, so our near-average snowfall for the season will stay there for a bit.
"No major snow in sight......"
ReplyDeleteHow many times this winter have we seen this written?
yeah, but not having any major snow is not really an issue. I am sure that sometime in then next month we will see an increase in the snow that all you snowmobilers crave.
ReplyDeleteAnother storm next weekend and another miss for New York. Looks like the Mid-Atlantic will see their 3rd snowstorm next weekend against Rochester's "0". If you take away the boring nickle and dime lake effect we have received all year we would have about 10 inches of snow so far.
