LAKE MACHINE, FULL THROTTLE THROUGH FRIDAY

Written By: Scott Hetsko

As long advertised, Arctic air is pouring Southeast following the front which is now into Eastern New York. The amount of lake induced instability is very impressive tonight and Friday so no doubt that snow will pile high North and Northeast of Rochester. The bitter cold airmass will mean the snow will be light and fluffy which will also raise accumulations. I expect over a foot of snow from Sodus along Route 104 toward Oswego. A few towns will see more than that by Friday evening.

Temperatures over the next 48 hours will struggle in the afternoon to reach the low to mid teens and lows away from the Lake will plummet well below zero Saturday and possibly Sunday morning as well. For those who wanted Winter back, you got it!

  1. Scott,

Thanks for the update. As a snow lover, while I'm enjoying the LES we're having, do you see any synoptic possibilities on the horizon here in Rochester in the next week or 2?

  2. No synoptic (large scale) storms anywhere in our near future. I'm afraid we're going to have just the lake effect stuff into early February.

  3. Oh well, there's always March, April, and May for big snowstorms here in ROC!
