WE'RE NOT THE ONLY ONES SHIVERING
Written by: Brian Neudorff
When it comes to the cold and snow we're not alone. In fact, the Eastern two-thirds of United States are gripped in some very harsh arctic cold. Just looking at some of the morning lows across the southern US:
Atlanta, GA - 19
Mobile, AL -23
Orlando FL - 32
Miami FL - 41
This is just the first wave, the next wave of arctic air arrives this weekend and will be colder. This could have some major impact on Florida's citrus crop. Before the cold arrives snow will be affecting many locations from the Northern Plains, the Ohio Valley into the Mid-Atlantic, the Northeast and as far south as Northern Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia including Atlanta. 1 to 2 inches are possible in these locations and maybe a few flakes could be seen in the air in Northern Florida.
This cold air appears to have some staying power through the weekend and into next week. Of course as Scott mentioned yesterday, we will also feel the affects of this blast of cold and some of this snow going into the day Friday.
Not much has changed since Scott's post, you may have missed a comment he left about potential snow amounts in responding to a commenters question about whether or not there will be any advisories issued by the National Weather Service:
I do actually if I had to put numbers on Friday now, 3-6" areawide then
several more inches in the wake of that low Friday and Saturday. I expect us to
be in the deformation zone of the little low Friday morning.
As far as lake effect into the weekend, we will have cyclonic flow and moisture but we lack the coastal storm and potential short waves to really enhance or spark some significant lake effect. I am keeping with the thinking of Scott that we will have lake effect but not to the amounts that we saw last weekend.
Of course talking about this cold and just how far reaching it is you may wonder how long has it been since a cold outbreak like this occurred? According to an article posted Monday on AccuWeather.com, we haven't seen such wide spread cold in 25 years. Their Senior meteorologist Joe Bastardi says, "It'll be like the great winters of the '60s and '70s." Read over their article love to hear what some of our viewers think of this assessment of winter.
What is also interesting of note is that the US is not the only place experiencing such unusually cold temperatures and conditions. Cold and snow in London, through out parts of Europe. As well as very cold temperatures in Beijing and Tokyo.
Want to know what I think about all of this cold in the Northern Hemisphere? I think it says alot about the effects of CO2 when so much of the globe can experience not just the degree of cold, but the persistance of it...in the midst of an el nino winter and record high levels of a gas that is supposedly trapping so much heat. I think that SOME scientist have been trying to warn us about this coming, but nobody in the mainstream wants to listen. I think that sunspots and recent volcanic activity are contributing greatly to the cold. I think that this winter is a taste of winters to come. I think that it's incredibly ironic that this is coming on the heels of the Copenhagen conference. I think that it's interesting that this winter is coming off of one of the coldest summer's we've ever had. And finally...I think that it's only a matter of time before scientist scramble to link this cold to global warming....if they arent already.
ReplyDeleteI suggest everybody reading this blog google "Joseph D'Aleo" and go to his website, http://www.icecap.us/
ReplyDeleteDr. D'Aleo is a brilliant scientist who has been predicting these events, backed up with science, for a long time. Unfortunately, because nobody wants to listen to his ideas, as they don't conform with the mainstream idea that man is the cause of all things bad in weather, he has not received the recognition he deserves.
Brian / Scott,
ReplyDeleteAre there any hints that this low will trend a little further north than the current models are suggesting? We need it to come just a little more north and we'll get even more snow!
It is telling that we are seeing such an outbreak of cold. We are told that there is barely any ice in the arctic and yet where is all this cold coming from. I won't go as far as calling Climate Change or Global Warming a hoax but I do have serious questions and people need to be better educated and informed on this topic. Debate is needed and people need to see that there are some a lot of climate scientist who lead their field who do not conform to the "consensus"
ReplyDeleteI am not a big fan of either side using particular weather events to better their argument. I actually saw someone use the blizzard along the east coast the week before Christmas make the argument that Climate Change was the reason Washington D.C. received a record December snowfall from that storm.
I think the weather team has made our position very clear on climate change on this blog. I am starting to become more and more convinced that governments are using climate change not because they care about the planet but want more power and control.
You're right, Brian. It's called "one world order," and that's what the gov't wants. With regard to climate change being blamed on the DC storm, doesn't it make you meteorologists frustrated? I know when I hear things like that, I know it's such bull, and yet everybody seems to buy into it blindly - especially the more liberal mainstream media. It's so frustrating. I wonder what it is going to take to get people to wake up.
ReplyDeleteAll i have to say on this is the russian scientists got it right. lookout in the coming years when sunspots dont come back
ReplyDeleteIf the low is moving to our South will we not see a NE wind to enhance the snow by the lakes?
ReplyDeleteI don't like the looks of the 18z NAM. After trending north for several runs, it now takes nearly all of the moisture well to our south. Does this one run mean anything, Scott?
