WORST OF THE SNOW TO END LATE SUNDAY
Written by: Bob Metcalfe
Here are some of the snow reports as of early this morning, around 9am from the NWS in Buffalo. These are not OFFICIAL obs.
Kent: 12"
Brockport: 4.2"
Rochester: 4.0", 3.7", 3.1"
Dansville: 2.0"
Newark: 8.5"
Walworth: 6.1"
We also had email reports of about 10" up in Ontario as well. At my doorstep in Irondequoit, a fresh 6" was on the ground.
Blowing and drifting have made it extremely difficult to measure the snow with any accuracy however. Regardless, its easy to see that the favored spots are northwest and well east of Rochester. We still continue to struggle with the radar beam overshooting most of the eastern Wayne County activity, making it more difficult to locate/observe the snow there.
This image is the snowfall we expect in addition to the amounts listed above from earlier this morning. Basically a Sunday daytime total. Locally higher amounts have been reported and are expected as well, but it is nearly impossible to place those given the nature of lake effect snow. But we are still heavily favoring northwest/far east zones for upwards of 6" more by the end of Sunday.
Winding the activity down quickly tonight, as a lower temperature inversion in the lowest levels of the atmospher caps the lake effect activity. Also, drier air aloft will mix in. These two features can put the squeeze on any productive lake effect activity. While most of it will wind down, a few towns northwest could see an additional 1-3" of snow overnight into Monday morning.
Still thinking that the cold pattern holds on this entire week, with occasional bouts of lake effect snow spread out over the next several days. None of these days show support for snow like we've seen over the past 24 hours, but an inch or two here and there is likely through Friday. On the plus side, a little sunshine will be working in between the clouds at times over the next handful of days.
I think we have one, maybe two inches in Geneva. From the sounds of it, everywhere around us has atleast 4".
ReplyDeleteHere in Ontario, NY we have around 15-20 inches... Drifting to around 40 inches... Still snowing hard.
ReplyDeleteHere in Hilton I measured about 14" in my backyard.....and it's still coming down quite heavy right now! still mostly fluffy snow
