TIME LAPSE OF THE D.C. BLIZZARD FEB 5-6 & THIS WEEKS STORM

Written by: Brian Neudorff

Someone sent this to me over Twitter. I have watched it several times. I know to many of you this will be like pouring salt into a deep lack of snow wound, but this is very impressive.

As I have stated numerous times, I feel your pain as we continue to watch storm after storm pass us. What has made it worst is my parents and sister who live in the D.C. area in VA keep showing me pictures, asking for forecasts as I sit here with our lake effect snow and talking about the storm that "Got Away" or as most of us see it, the storms that "Haven't Been".

Wednesday's Storm:
As I look over the information, I am not changing much from what Bob mentioned yesterday. The focus of this storm will be back along the east coast near the Washington D.C. & Baltimore areas and this time, most of the snow may fall farther north than last weekend storm. We are not looking at the same amounts but NYC gets into the snow act this time around.

So what about us missing another storm. We will get snow this time around but I know it will do nothing to help the snow appetites many of you have and crave. I feel confident in saying that preliminary numbers look like 3 to 6 inches with higher amounts of maybe 4 to 8 along the Southern Tier along the New York, Pennsylvania border.

Keep in mind, things could change and timing and intensity still need to be fine tuned and those preliminary numbers are just that. I know this doesn't help the wound but at least it is something.

  1. I will take it :) If there is enough for my little girl to sled, I am happy!

  2. Don't you see... we do not want snow like that. There's no wound created by a lack of snow. Snow sucks. And it is great that we aren't getting hit by storms like that.

"I feel your pain as we continue to watch storm after storm pass us."

There's no pain. I could watch storms pass us all day.

  4. Brian,

This is torture for a snow freak lover like me. I thought living in Rochester would satisfy my snow cravings but you know what? Since I moved here in 2002, I have not witnessed a single synoptic event of more than a foot. NOT ONE. Yes, we have nickle and dime snow with moderate events here and there, but are you kidding me? Is it THAT rare to get a biggie up here?

Winter Storm Watches are posted for the Southhern Tier, but of course, we miss out again. WE HAVEN'T HAD ONE SINGLE STUPID WINTER STORM WATCH FOR ROCHESTER THIS WHOLE WINTER....WHAT THE HECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we don't get a big synoptic snow event (a foot or more) by the time this winter ends, this will have been probably the worst winter I will have EVER endured...even worse than the many warm and dry ones in the past. TEASE AFTER TEASE AFTER TEASE AFTER TEASE....People North, South, East, West of us getting buried....all except us.

I wish I didn't love deep snow as much as I do....this wouldn't be so painful.

I'm so jealous of the MA folks, but happy that many of their snow freaks are enjoying...but come on...SHARE THE WEALTH, SNOW GODS!!! Hope they get at least 10 years in a row of warm, dry, and rainy winters after this one........

TWO BLIZZARDS IN A WEEK!!! Do you know how happy that would make me???????????? BUT NO!!! Yes, I'm a freak!!!!

  5. Brian,

This was a great little video. Thanks for posting it. But, yeah, made me a little sad. Will this be one of those winters where it just doesn't really happen?

To the anonymous who posted at 1:41PM....wait until next year!

  6. Brian,

Thank you so much for posting this wonderful video. Also, thank you for all of your positive comments about snow. Everyone I work with hates snow and I hear nothing but complaints all day long, it is so disheartening. I can't tell you what a joy it was to visit the weather blog and find others who feel the way I do.

    Thank you very much!
