SHORTER SNOW SEASON THAN USUAL

Written By: Scott Hetsko
Good afternoon everyone! Well I think it's pretty safe to close the book on snowfall for this season. Looking back at this Winters' snow, most fell in 1 to 3 inch episodes except for the last hurrah in late February which dumped 12-20" of snow. So at least we got one good storm this Winter. The Mid Atlantic saw historic snow from D. C. and Virginia Northeast into Southern New Jersey.
Back home, we are about to make some history in March for lack of snow. As far as climate records go back for snowfall in Rochester (1884), there has never been a March without measurable snow until this year. To be fair, where records are kept have changed since 1884 from the city to the airport. April and May can get some snow but it's rare and usually no big deal.

Where's a good place to grab a bite to eat in Scranton?

  5. That's okay if it's a little out of the way, we're planning on making a mini road trip of it on our way to NYC. Thanks for the tip, sound delicious! And the weather should be great for a nice drive, too!

  6. By the way, it's 33 with light SNOW as of 6:00 at the Scranton / Wilkes Barre airport!

    70's there by the weekend.

It must be higher elevations out there...

  7. Scott,
What year did the recording site change its location?

  8. I don't know when the observations moved. I assume sometime in the 1940s or 1950s. It certainly would make a HUGE difference in the data.

  10. Scott, are you going to do the backyard barbecue again this year? We'd love to have you over! We back up to a golf course, so you could even have fun heckling the golfers that go by! Please post how to enter, if possible.
