ISOLATED STORMS THEN COOLER TEMPS
Written by: Brian Neudorff
The back door cold front that Scott mentioned on Tuesday will move through western New York later this afternoon. This will bring cooler and more comfortable air Friday and into Saturday. As we make the transition from the summer heat to more seasonal May temperatures a few isolated to possibly scattered showers and storms will fire along and ahead of this front later this afternoon.
It doesn't appear that this even will be very wide spread and the image you see above is just our local Futurecast model's interpretation of where some of the isolated to scattered storms could form. This model and others I have seen it does appear that the best dynamics for storms is to our south and southeast. Rochester could get a storm or two, but the bulk of the action could be in and around the Finger Lakes.
There's not much of a severe threat with any storm that forms but the Storm Prediction Center does have parts of western and central New York in a "Slight" risk for severe storms. The biggest threat would be some hail and gusty winds. I wouldn't cancel any outdoor plans later this afternoon. Best idea, because of the expected sparse nature of these storms, just keep an eye to the sky and radar here at RochesterHomepage.net
Brian,
ReplyDeleteIf we can eek out enough sunshine before any nearby t-storm clouds or rain cooled air limits warming, do we have a shot of an "overachieving" day in the temperature department? Maybe a run at 90 if it stays sunny all afternoon?
Possible sure, it also depends on the winds. We don't have a real strong wind out of the south to negate any Lake Breeze that will probably kick in later this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that lake breeze has been a real spoiler for our chances of reaching 90. We totally had a shot yesterday when it was already 87 at 1PM. But then the temp just stopped rising any further all afternoon. I don't like the heat, but it's gotta be cool to be able to go on air and say we hit 90 at the airport. I just like to see those kinds of records happen.
