VERY WARM MARCH & APRIL
Written by: Brian Neudorff
It was indeed a warm and unusual start to spring. Not only abnormally dry as mentioned in the previous post but also very warm. April 2010 was the warmest in 89 years and the March-April combination was the warmest in 65 years.
Those weren't the only interesting stats for the last 2 months, here are some more from the National Weather Service in Buffalo, NY.
- Warmest April in 89 years at 52.4 (+7.1).
- 3rd warmest April ever in the 140 years of Rochester records. (next to 52.6/1878 and 52.5/1921).
- 87 degree maximum on the 3rd was not only a daily record but the warmest ever so early in the season
- Warmest March-April combo in 65 years at 46.2 (+6.6)
- 4th Warmest March-April combo in the 140 years of records. (next to 47.7/1921, 47.0/1945 & 46.4/1878)
- 50 of the 61 days warmer than average.
- March-April combined snowfall of 0.2 inch was least in history (127 yrs).
Jeesh, do you think Rochester could rack up enough records this year!?!? lol.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, the warmth is definitely shown in the lilacs. They are officially at full bloom at Highland Park....two weeks early. Not the best news for the festival. But hopefully a few varieities will hang on to their brilliant color.
