Mild through Thursday, then...

Written by John DiPasquale:

Nice today, & really other than a few snow showers & flurries it will be uneventful & pleasant through Wednesday. Later Wednesday night into Thursday some showers appear to be in the works, but after Thursday much colder air should be yanked in here by Wednesday night & Thursday's rain maker. This should spell 20s for highs & at least a bit of general snow & some lake snows. Stay tuned for more as the week progresses everyone.

Have a nice day WNY!

  1. How much does the lack of snow cover contribute to our daytime temperatures?

  2. Good question, Larid. I'd like to know that too.

  3. I would think it definataley plays a role. if you have snow cover that would keep the temps lower. Since there is no snow cover the temps are higher I would think. I also think a lack of snow cover up stream plays a role in how cold we would get. Cold air riding along snowcover tends to keep its colder airmass. If cold air rides along bare ground it loses some gusto.

  5. Not an expert by any means, just giving my thoughts. I am hoping the METS chime in to give the expert answer.

  6. You are absolutely correct weatherdan! Right on! Snow pack would keep the air colder here, & if there's a snow pack upstream of us it would aid in making it colder here too, as the colder air masses would have more success in building in. Not this winter so far, but this change at least temporarily come Friday through the holiday weekend. Get ready snow fans, we should get at least some minor accumulations for all, with maybe even more than that late Thursday night into Friday with intensifying storm moving up strong cold front. It will all depend on track of storm & arrival of colder air. Stay tuned.

Come the weekend we will contend with much colder air, some limited lake snows & at least minor accumulations Saturday & Sunday. Highs over the weekend will be in the mid to upper 20s Saturday & struggling to hit the 20s on Sunday!

    Have a great day all!

    John
