April Snow Brings May What!?

Well, just when you thought winter was done flexing it's muscles a bit, IT'S NOT...There will not be much more falling through the duration of this storm for most, but another 2 to as much as 6" could pile up over the high terrain south & southwest of Rochester, especially in Wyoming, Livingston & Genesee Counties. The combination of wet snow piling up on trees that have already budded/foliated & gusty winds out of the north has created some power outages to this point throughout WNY, & there could be some more due to the additional snows, mainly over the high terrain south. Most of the new snow predicted to fall between noon Monday & 7am Tuesday will fall late today through early Tuesday when the sun goes down. Roads could very well become slick & sloppy again during this period, especially over the hills south & southwest where snow will be most widespread late today & tonight. Some snow totals will probably reach the 6 to 12"+ range over the highest elevations in WNY when all is said & done come Tuesday morning! Again, most though will see nothing more than a sloppy coating to a couple inches or so from this unusually intense Nor'easter.
Scattered lingering snow & rain showers with more wind will be with us Tuesday, as temperatures struggle to make the upper 30s to low 40s! Come Wednesday, readings should break into the low 50s, as intervals of sun should develop after a couple of lingering/stray morning snow & rain showers.
On Thursday, we should begin the day mild with readings shooting up into the 50s quickly, but a strong cold front will race through later in the day & cool us right back down late Thursday & especially Thursday night into Friday. Highs will likely be back in the 40s to end the week & start the weekend with maybe another storm affecting us late Friday night through early Sunday?? It's still way to far out to gauge how the storm & cold air are going to interact & where. Stay tuned through the week for updates.

Thanks for the update John! What does the outlook look like for the next few weeks? Are we going to keep seeing this rollercoaster of weather? One warm day, and then cooler, cloudy days? I'm ready for some May flowers!!!

ReplyDeleteWell not as strong as I had said but was right about the track. I had it through CNY and believe that was the track. Amazing that the pattern change we all waited for has come this late. If this was a few months ago we would have easily had 1-2 feet of snow. Also next weekend would be very interesting if it was several months ago. We still have to keep an eye on that possible one next weekend.
