FROSTY MORNINGS NOT TO FAR AWAY

WRITTEN BY:  SCOTT HETSKO

Now that we are in the last week of September already, it's time to think about the end of the growing season in Western New York.  Due to elevation and being well South of the large lakes, the Southern Tier and Southern Finger Lakes usually see a hard frost by the end of this week.  It appears that the growing season may last a little longer than normal this fall.  There may be some scattered frost Friday or Saturday morning South otherwise not much expect in the next 5-7 days.

In the Genesee Valley, sometime a hard frost doesn't occur until mid October!

  1. Watched the weather channel last night and they had the 3 month outlook and it does not look good for snow lovers here. The water temps in the Northern Pacific are extremely warm and they state that translates to a trough in the west and a ridge in the east. They have us way above normal temps through December. We will see.

  3. Winter predictions are hard. Even harder when they are done in September. If I remember right, the Weather channel predict cold and snowy for us last year around this time and then changed it later. I'm going to wait a few more weeks before putting much stock in any longer term prediction.
