VETERANS' DAY WARM UP!

Written By:  Scott Hetsko

Following 9 straight days of below normal temperatures in Rochester, a nice warmup will develop on Sunday afternoon.  Overrunning from a warm front will produce clouds and even a shower or two during the day Saturday.  Temperatures will slowly rise into the low 50s by Sunday morning.  Strong Southwest winds will help the mercury soar into the lower 70s in the Genesee valley.  The record for Rochester is 73 set back in 1909 which we may tie.

The warm air will linger into the new week before a strong cold front will send a period of rain into the area Monday night and early Tuesday.  High pressure and sunny sky will return the rest of next week.

  4. Not sure what you are seeing. See below from the NWS:

LOOKING FARTHER AHEAD...THE BENIGN AND RELATIVELY MILD WEATHER LOOKS
TO LAST FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT FEW WEEKS AS THE NORTH ATLANTIC
OSCILLATION /NAO/ AND ARCTIC OSCILLATION /AO/ INDEX BOTH STAY IN
POSITIVE TERRITORY. THE POSITIVE PHASE OF THESE TWO INDICES RESULTS
FROM A PERSISTENT TROUGH OVER GREENLAND AND ICELAND...WHICH PREVENTS
ANY DEEP SOUTHWARD PENETRATION OF COLD AIR ACROSS THE NORTH AMERICAN
CONTINENT. THIS WILL KEEP A ZONAL FLOW IN PLACE ACROSS THE UNITED
STATES OVER THE NEXT TWO WEEKS. THE PACIFIC NORTH AMERICAN /PNA/
TELECONNECTION REMAINS NEGATIVE THROUGH THE PERIOD...SUGGESTING ANY
MINOR INTRUSIONS OF ARCTIC AIR WILL BE DIRECTED TOWARDS THE PACIFIC
NORTHWEST AND WESTERN HIGH PLAINS. WITH THIS IN MIND...EXPECT
TEMPERATURES TO RUN A LITTLE ABOVE AVERAGE IN THE 7 TO 14 DAY
PERIOD...TAKING US INTO THANKSGIVING WEEK WITH LITTLE OR NO WINTER
    WEATHER AS OF YET.

  5. In fact it is going to be so quiet we will not even have a write up from our mets as evidenced by nothing since last week.

  6. Was anyone expecting wall to wall winter from November to April? The only concern I have has is I was just reading a discussion about solar flares. It was mentioned that it is currently the highest activity since last November. I haven't got a clue what solar flares might do to the atmosphere...I just don't like having ANYTHING compared to last winter.

  7. Let's hope solar flare activity is directly correlated to a warm winter.

  8. Whats up this is kind of of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG
editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I'm starting a blog soon but have no coding skills so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!
