A DECEMBER TO FORGET?

Written By:  Scott Hetsko

What can I say?  Seems a lot like 2011 when we ended up with under 5" for the month.  There is hope though, back in 2006 we followed that horrible start with over nearly 100" of snow the following 3 months.

  1. Will we see some sort of doomsday themed picture on the seven day forecast graphic when 12/21 is in range?

  2. Just a quick glance.. but it looked like 28 and 32 were miserable for snow January and February.. Both had 30+ inches in March.

  3. Lets face it, we are headed for another year of snowless weather. There is no snow in sight. We might as well beat the record for a snowless December.

  5. I think it is hilarious that many of the mets, not this station keep calling for a pattern change. In november they said it would happen around December 10th. Well December 10th has come and gone and still not pattern change. A few days ago they said next week and that we had 3 chances of snow this month. The first weak storm is Sunday Monday and that will be rain. The storm after that will probably miss us East. Toady they are saying a January pattern change. I say stop already. Stop trying to predict what you do not know.Eventually you will be right if you keep saying the pattern will change. It is almost embarrasing. The pattern is not going to change.

    1. I so agree with you. I am getting very sick and tired of a certain TV station doing this. Now they are on the "THREE SNOW OPPORTUNITIES NEXT WEEK." Whoop - dee - doo.....

Just stop now. OK. Stop with the snow hype.

  6. It is certainly not looking good thus far this winter. Hard to have faith that any big storm will be in our path.

  7. Again with the negativity and the "so far so good" bollocks? I believe Scott saying some minutes ago that we appear headed towards a somewhat longer lasting period of typical winter conditions should put and end to that talk. Unless I heard him wrong next week could afford one or two decent opportunities for snow. Maybe. Things are really starting to look up from last season though, so can the pessimists and trolls please go the #$%& away until the next warmup?

  8. Anonymous, where are you saying that things are looking up. I just heard Scott say that the storms will probably elude us at the 11 pm show. The storm next week will miss us way East. Look at the models. We are not being negative just realistic. It may get seasonably cold but no big snows in the forecast. We will get under 10 inches for the month is my guess. I hope not but it does not look good.

    1. Things are looking up because at the very least it will be colder, and for longer than 2 days this time, which happened exactly 0 times last winter. Nowhere did Scott say "probably" regarding next weeks storm, and whoever does is an ignoramus for it, IMHO, because there is a boatload of uncertainty present in the model guidance, and we're talking about a potential storm 9 days from now. And for the nothing it's worth at this point, the 0z GFS isn't terrible for our region with that storm. Not to mention the 12z Euro ensembles were also decent. We have several more days of the usual model chaos before any certainty is established. The more certain idea is a better pattern for us to have snow opportunities.

Some of you may need to alter your definition of the word "realistic."

    2. Unless I misheard Scott of course, in which case I take back the whole "ignoramus" bit.
