Minor Weekend Snows on Tap

Written by John DiPasquale:

Happy Friday everyone! Well, it looks like we will see a bit of snow this weekend, but it will not be from the bigger storm down south. A little area of low pressure will dive through with a strong upper air disturbance Saturday with a period of snow, that may come down a little heavy for a bit Saturday afternoon. A slushy coating to an inch or two is likely tomorrow, & be followed by another coating to an inch or two of lake fluff Saturday night into Sunday morning on a chilly north-northeast wind. Temperatures will be in the mid 30s tomorrow, & probably not getting out of the 20s on Sunday.

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Great winter weather! A big 1-2 inches from a LP. Rochester winters are no longer a big deal.

It does look to me that the end of next week could get very snowy. I am not buying the big storm on the coast until the day one hits. With that said it looks like an active patern with many oportunities for small clipper type events. At this point i will take anything i can get, even if its only alittle hope one week out. The snow this morning was very nice to see, even snowhaters should enjoy its beauty, without having to worry about shoveling. The 3 hours overtime was also very nice. I am going to hang on to some hope that the rest of this winter might still have some punch left. How can someone enjoy a nice summer and spring without winters chill and snow, THAT IS CRAZY TO ME anonymous snowhaters, not myself loving ALL SEASONS AND WHAT THEY SHOULD HAVE TO OFFER. Each season has its goods and bads. Rochester without a winter would takeaway alot of its character. So why dont we all TOUGHEN UP alittle and hope for some TYPICAL WINTER WEATHER. Sorry i am not a very good speller.

  9. Do not see a lot there Weatherdan. But what do I know I missed this last one. Can not even worry about the models in advance anymore. However I do think cold air could work in next weekend and that is good if we can get a strong storm with a good track.

  10. Very hopefull Hamlin Highway PlowerFebruary 18, 2012 at 2:48 PM

Andrew, I think in the next few days we will all see that there is going to be something worth getting excited about the end of next week into the following week. I know that nobody wants to here it, because that is all that we have ALL heard next week, all winter long. Next week, next week, I know, however I think all winter lovers will have something to be excited about come next weekend. It might be a fun week to watch the weather forecasts. We will have to wait and see. Just like to let you know, I dont cry wolf very often.

  11. There is no way we do not get a snow storm this winter. The weather is beginning to get more volatile and models have not budged on the fact that cold air will build in late next week and possibly stick around for a bit! All as I know is that I remember getting an ice storm in april 7 or 8 years back!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Ice storm was in 2003 and I'm pretty sure Hamlin plow driver will agree we don't need another one. They are not fun at all to work in.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I would not like to see any ice storms any time soon. They cause way to much property damage. They also create very dangerous road conditions, no fun at all.

  14. Weatherguy not sure what you are looking at with the weather getting more and more volitale? Also what are looking at with where the cold air is coming and going to stick around? I do not see it just think you are wishing again. It will be March shortly and with the tilt of the sun it will not get that cold in March.

  15. Anon, I'm not wishing nor have I ever been wishing. At least three storm systems are going to track through our neck of the woods this coming week, and F.Y.I, volatile does not mean its going to snow, just means its going to be an active pattern. But looks like we should get some measurable snow from next Thursday night through next weekend!

  16. The GFS shows a pretty strong storm for Thursday-Friday going just East of us, but the Euro shows it going West of us. I am sure the euro will verify the way this winter has gone.

  17. Thursday, Friday time might feature a messy rain snow mix. I would pay more atention to saturday-monday for a bigger storm potential and more significant LES. Upper level energy favors a stronger saturday storm cold air also favors saturday.

  18. So should I register my snowmobiles or not???

No DO NOT register your snowmobiles. Even if we do get alot of snow this weekend, it wont stick around. I am sticking to how i have felt ALL WINTER, it will snow, just in time to see it melt in two or three days. There will be NO snowmobiling in this area this year, sorry.

  20. Thanks Town of Hamlin Plower. My brother told me the same thing last night.

  21. Well he must know what he is talking about, sounds smart to me LOL.

  22. Too bad for us, we registered ours in November....what a wast of money! Have not even had them out at all this year, not enough snow here in the southerntier at all this winter.

    ReplyDelete
  23. do not see anything of major consequence on the horizon. Rain later in the week and nothing big next weekend. It is getting in March not much going to happen.

Still not going to backoff next Saturday yet. I would bet money the low heading overhead friday will help fire up low pressure alongcoast southeast of here. Lots of positive vorticity along that front at the 500mb height. There will also be plenty of cold air pushing south behind Fridays cold front. Will low pressure be close enough to the coast would be my concern.

  25. Not sure still what you guys are seeing? It is going to be mid 40s all week. Where is the cold air? What storm are you talking about weatherguy, weatherdan, and Hamlin plower? Not seeing anything big on the the models?

    ReplyDelete
  26. The next three storms are all rain makers according to the models.

  27. I would watch Friday-Sunday. I said earlier that i thought mid week would be messy rain snow mixs. I was looking at the weekend and i still am. I am not buying into the GFS 18Z model run at this time, it will make many changes early this coming week. Even if this storm hooks west or us LES potential might be high over the weekend. I said it will be intresting come end of this week and i still beleive it will. It is much easier to sit around and wait for the models to show us a clear cut storm and its track and then talk about it, than it is to suggest what looks like you think might take place without models showing it exactly that way. We can only wait and see. I think it is worth watching though.

  28. I too, believe our weather pattern is becoming a bit more active. More cold(er) blasts trying to work in, but I still think they will be short-lived, and we'll still have a very up and down temperature trend.

  29. It is still unbelievable that we are at the end of February and all this week it will be in the 40's. I never witnessed a pattern so stubborn. We will see about this weekend, but I am doubtful now from whast I earlier thought. I have given up on this winter and am now excited about baseball to start. I hope we are in for a nice dry spring and hot summer. We really need to dry out. It has been so wet since late summer. Have a good week everyone.

  30. At this point last year, we were up to 94" of snow on the season. This year - 44". We are still holding at #3 for the least snowiest winters in ROC as of today. We've still got time, but it's getting harder and harder to make up. Certainly a winter to remember (or forget)!

  31. I agree with Hamlin Plower to keep an eye on things a week from today. I think next week could be active. The 6z GFS has a nice storm on the coast for this week. I know it is 9 days out but has shown the last several runs and the Euro has also shown it. Also I know it means little especially this winter. But maybe one will pan out fnally. Just hoping the snowlovers get one bomb.

  32. All the storms I see coming up look to go West bringing in warm air and then a brief shot of cold air with minor lake effect before the nest system goies to our West. Not looking good guys.

    ReplyDelete
  33. You are right as I said before this winter is done. But guys like you weatherdan, weatherguy, Andrew and Hamlin Plower want to keep wishcasting on models way out. Have you hopers not figured this winter out yet? There is not enough cold air for any big storm and if we do get any storm it goes west for rain or too far south or off the coast. Please stop it and let the experts do their job. As you can see there has not been a post from the experts in several days that should tell all of you something right?
